Councillors have approved plans to extend a popular Lancashire caravan park, it has been reported.

According to This is Lancashire, members of Bury council's planning committee unanimously voted for a new caravan and tent site at Burrs Country Park.

Caravan insurance policyholders planning a trip to the area will be able to choose from 20 new mobile home pitches.

Under the plans, getting to the park will also be much simpler as a new railway platform and shelter will be built for the East Lancashire Railway station nearby, including a pedestrian and disabled ramp, claims the local news site.

Speaking at the planning meeting, councillor Denise Bigg said: "I was actually opposed to the caravan site when it originally came into planning. However, I feel they have done a good job and I feel it would enhance facilities there.”

Her colleague Michael Hankey echoed her views, describing it as an "excellent proposal".

According to the Burrs Country Park Caravan Club, the site includes the historic remains of two mills and offers plenty of activities for visitors.

Climbing, abseiling and canoeing are just some of the outdoor pursuits caravanners can indulge in, it adds.
