Caravan holidays are seeing a surge in Cornwall as Britons look to keep their costs down, an expert has suggested.

Following the announcement that ten of Newquay's holiday parks have made it into the Top 100 Sites Award by Practical Caravan magazine, Tourism Newquay's business development manager Richard Wilcox has said that holidaying in mobile homes is becoming more popular.

"Caravan and camping holidays are experiencing somewhat of a renaissance at the moment as more families try it out as a cost effective way to enjoy a fun packed holiday," he told BusinessCornwall.co.uk.

He went on to say that it was announced earlier this year that the town has a third of the south-west region's top graded holiday parks and campsites.

"It's great that Newquay can offer such a high standard of park, both in terms of the accommodation and the facilities they offer," Mr Wilcox added.

Among the area's most recognised holiday sites is Trevella Caravan Park, which offers fishing lakes, a heated swimming pool and parkland to appeal to nature loving caravan insurance policyholders.

The site is one of the many in the region in the running for the Top 100 Award.
