A Top Gear stunt went dramatically wrong yesterday when a caravan attached to an airship crashed into a field, it has been reported.
According to the Daily Mail, the huge airship carrying presenter James May was intended to land on a cricket pitch in a Cambridgeshire village.
Blown off course by strong winds, the ship instead ended up falling on its side among trees and hedges half a mile away in a farmer's field near the busy A428.
Onlooker Peter Clark, 37, told the newspaper: "All the cricketers were there dressed in their whites waiting for it to appear, but it started drifting off in the wrong direction.
"I think the film crew were a bit upset as they had been hanging around the village all day waiting for the wind to drop so they could film."
The Mail reports that BBC crew members quickly rushed to the scene to check whether May had been injured.
As they were unable to reach the airship, an emergency services helicopter gave them the all-clear.
Caravan insurance policyholders may be relieved to hear that while ambulances were on standby, none were needed.
In related news, May's fellow presenter Richard Hammond has received £750,000 for four days work shooting supermarket chain Morrisons' Christmas campaign, claims the Daily Mail in an earlier story.
