Mobile home dealers are selling out of stock due to a surge in popularity among caravan insurance customers choosing to holiday in the UK, new research has revealed.
Conducted by leisure finance specialist IM Financial Services, the poll found that 89 per cent of those surveyed said they would consider investing in a caravan as it would offer better value for money than flying abroad for a holiday.
Current exchange rates also seem to be a key factor for many holidaymakers as two-thirds reported that the euro's rising value would encourage them to stay closer to home.
In addition, the survey suggested that previous good experiences in mobile accommodation were spurring many consumers on to make a purchase as more than half of those considering buying a caravan had been on holiday in one before.
Responding to the findings, a spokesperson for the National Caravan Council confirmed that many dealers had said anecdotally that sales of used vehicles had been healthy, with some having little to sell in certain price ranges.
UK leisure operator Haven Holidays recently reported that it had seen a significant increase in customers favouring the flexibility of a caravan break.
