VW enjoys continued van success
Car manufacturer Volkswagen has announced impressive growth in its commercial vehicle sector.
During the first quarter of 2006 it sold 99,000 vans, increasing worldwide deliveries by 10.9 per cent compared to year-on-year sales in the first quarter of 2005.
In particular the LT model performed very well, growing by 17.7 per cent to 9,300 vehicles sold, with the Transporter, Caravelle and Caddy models also proving popular.
Whatever size the van though a third party or comprehensive van insurance policy is a legal requirement and can save your business if you rely on your van day to day.
"It has been the best first quarter for deliveries since the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles brand was launched," commented Harald Schomburg of Volkswagen's brand board of management.
"Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles is still on record course," he said.
Much of the company's growth occurred in Germany thanks to the launching of its new Crafter model, causing an increase in deliveries by 17 per cent that compares favourably with overall European growth of 9.5 per cent.
The Crafter model will arrive in the UK in September, where separate results released by the CV Show demonstrated a sixth consecutive year in growth for the German company, which recorded an impressive 23,065 British registrations.
UK growth for Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles surpassed even Germany's figures, with sales for the Caddy model, featuring a new DSG automatic gearbox, increasing by 26 per cent during 2005.
