A luxury model from Land Rover may be set to leap into the good books of caravan insurance policyholders after winning a number of towing awards.

The new Discovery 4 model scooped two accolades recently at the Caravan Club's Towcar of the Year Awards 2010 after going on sale last month.

Land Rover's model, which has been upgraded to feature a more luxurious cabin, enhanced power and refinement and fewer CO2 emissions, took the Best Towcar Over £32,000 class and the All Wheel Drive Over 1800kg category.

Models in the running were tested at Millbrook Proving Ground where judges discovered the vehicle stood out among others in its class.

"It will go anywhere and offers an impressive array of caravan-friendly features. I'm sure it will be a popular choice with our members and their families," commented driving judge Barry Williams of The Caravan Club.

The vehicle, which can tow up to 3,500kg, is fitted with various technological features to aid drivers, such as trailer stability assist to help the engine cut torque and intervene with braking if necessary.

Overall, the top winner at the ceremony was the VW Golf SE 2.0 TDI, which not only won its price class, but was also named the top winner for its practicality and towing ability in various situations.
