Holidaymakers who enjoyed a caravan break this year may well be considering making a more permanent investment, says a mobile home expert.

According to members' organisation The Caravan Club, more Britons than ever are purchasing new vehicles as a "lifestyle choice".

Park operator, Park Resorts has reported a "record-breaking season" with caravan sales up by 40 per cent in the first half of the financial year in 2009.

In addition, domestic tourism body VisitEngland reported a 14 per cent increase in holiday trips taken by UK residents in England in the same period.

Commenting on the statistics, Nikki Nichol, a spokesperson for the club, said: "There is no reason to say this won't continue to next year as once people have bought a caravan, it does become a holiday choice and a lifestyle choice.

"Who wouldn't want a holiday every Friday night? If you have a caravan, you can do that."

More people are encouraged to become caravan insurance policyholders due to the credit crunch and poor exchange rates, which make foreign holidays less appealing, she explained.
