A new Home Office-approved tagging system has been unveiled by a caravan security specialist.
Launched by Datatag, the device is designed to act as a deterrent to thieves as well as a useful aid for police detection.
Easy for the owner to install, the system gives each caravan its own unique 'fingerprint' through a range of identification techniques.
Included in the package is a DNA solution containing thousands of microscopic patented Datadots, which can be applied to the mobile home's interior and is almost impossible to remove.
Two types of electronic transponders can also be fitted to the caravan, each with their own unique reference number that can be relayed to police.
Warning labels remind would-be thieves that they are attempting to steal a highly secure vehicle that could be easily recovered.
Commenting on the product's launch, Chris Harrison, national sales manager for Datatag, said: "Everyone is concerned about the threat of theft and our system acts as a deterrent and provides a unique identity for caravans, motorhomes and their contents providing a cost-effective solution to the threat."
Purchasing the security system could also help to bring down consumers' caravan insurance policies, he added.
In related news, mobile home manufacturer Coachman Caravans reported a record-breaking £6.8 million of sales at the recent International Caravan and Motorhome Show in Birmingham, claimed thebusinessdesk.com.
