A caravan park on the Isle of Wight has received an accolade for excellence at this year's Tourism ExSEllence Awards.

The ceremony rewards those who excel in the filed of tourism across the south-east region.

Over the past 18 months, businesses were chosen for the shortlist, with categories spanning the whole industry, from caravan parks to tourist attractions.

The island picked up a number of accolades, with mobile home park Old Mill Holiday Park, St Helens, receiving a silver award, the Isle of Wight County Press reports.

Caravan insurance policyholders familiar with the site may feel it deserving of such descriptions as "amazing" and "beautifully maintained", bestowed on the business during judging.

First place during the proceedings went to Bunn Leisure Holiday Villages in Chichester, while the island also scooped a highly commended award for The Orchards Holiday Park.

Mike Bedingfield, chief executive of Tourism South East, said he was pleased with the high standard of entries into the competition this year.

"The awards are all about showcasing the very best the beautiful south has to offer and this year, the selection process was both exciting and challenging," he told the publication.
