Holidaymakers are increasingly opting for breaks in Caravan Club sites and the group predicts the trend will continue throughout winter.
The number of nights stayed on club sites is up by one million on 2008 figures, with more than 15.6 million having already enjoyed a break so far this year.
While the weather may have been disappointing for some, the club suggests the recession has prompted a growing number of Britons to rediscover the joys of holidaying at home.
Commenting on the results, Nick Lomas, the membership body's director of marketing, said: "Our season has been terrific with many hundreds of thousands of happy caravanners."
The figures also revealed many are discovering caravanning for the first time, with a record number of members joining the club at the International Caravan and Motorhome Show in October.
Bookings are already open for the Caravan Club's 83rd annual rally from May 28th to June 1st 2010.
Held in the grounds of Weston Park in Shropshire, the event usually attracts around 10,000 caravanners according to organisers. Tickets are open to all club members.
