As the recession forces caravanners to tighten their belts, an online retailer is urging motorists to avoid the "false economy" of second-hand tyres.
Tyre specialist Mytyres.co.uk claims the number of people buying part-worn wheels is difficult to judge, but suggests the downturn is likely to put more pressure on drivers' spending.
Caravan insurance customers considering how they can cut back may be encouraged to look for savings elsewhere, as the retailer warns second-hand tyres can contain dangerous internal damage, causing the wheel to deflate.
Current legislation requires sellers to check every product before sale and ensure they have a tread of at least 2mm, but research by Trading Standards suggest as much as 30 per cent of those on sale could be dangerous.
The firm suggests now is an ideal time to invest in some new, safe tyres as Mytyres.co.uk is offering an eight per cent discount until November 25th to mark its fifth year in operation.
In other mobile home news, membership body the Caravan Club is celebrating its fifth year in partnership with nature charity the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds.
