People planning to head away for the winter in a caravan may be tempted by some of the locations that have just won some top awards for their facilities.

With a growing number of people taking out caravan insurance rather than splashing the cash on a foreign holiday, finding a top location to enjoy a break in the caravan is becoming increasingly important for many people.

Travellers need not worry about the quality of toilet facilities at Camping and Caravanning Club sites, however, as 18 of the 25 sites put forward have been given the top rating in the Loo of the Year Awards 2009.

Caravan Magazine reports the 18 sites achieved a five-star rating from the awards, demonstrating the high standard that visitors can expect when staying at the club's caravan and camping sites.

"This is great news for all the sites involved because, as a club, we are all about raising standards in the provision of a most basic human need - a clean, hygienic and safe toilet," Bob Hill, sites director at the club, told the magazine.

It is the latest success for the club, which recently saw 19 of its sites achieve five-star ratings in the Visit Britain Tourist Board ratings.
