Caravan and motorhome insurance policyholders with a penchant for the Volkswagen California campervan can now invest in one of the models from the firm's Lancashire base.

The unique model has gone on sale at Volkswagen Van Centre in the Millennium City Retail Park, Preston, after being displayed at events during the summer season.

Decorated with colourful decals, the model promotes Volkswagen's Escape campaign, inviting motorists to show the ways in which they use their cars, vans and campervans for enjoyment.

Jason Hill, events manager at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, said that there were countless consumers at the summer events asking whether the vehicle was for sale, along with the firm's Caravelle model, decorated in the same way.

"These vehicles look fantastic and everyone loves the graphics and luxury, bespoke interior," he added.

According to Volkswagen, the California is one of its best campervans ever, built to the same standard as the firm's passenger cars and boasting two double beds, a sink, cooker, fridge and electro-hydraulic roof that rises at the touch of a button.

The model is also fitted with a safety package, including airbags and an electronic stabilisation programme, potentially helping ward off caravan insurance claims.
