A banned driver who potentially cost a mobile home owner a whopping caravan insurance claim has been jailed for two years.
Vincent Kerr was the subject of a police chase in Yorkshire when he was spotted towing a stolen caravan worth £17,000 at 80 miles per hour along a motorway.
The Otley driver lost control of the Citroen van he was using to tow the mobile home along the M621 and crashed into the central barrier.
It is understood the caravan had been stolen in a burglary at J Deans Haulage Yard and Kerr was responsible for delivering the vehicle.
Claire Larton, prosecuting, commented: "The defendant sped up to 80mph the caravan was shaking violently."
Kerr then jack-knifed the van and the caravan before coming to a halt on a grass verge, when he attempted to escape, Bradford crown court heard.
Defending, Simon Clegg said that Kerr was suffering from a personality disorder but added that his condition is thought to have stabilised.
The Otley man admitted dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and handling stolen goods and was sent to prison for two years and three months.
In related news, South Devon's Herald Express recently reported that thieves attacked almost 30 caravans during a raid at Ashburton at a cost of £7,000.
