There was a year-on-year rise of 22 per cent in the number of Britons choosing to take a holiday in the UK in the summer of this year, meaning more people may have sought caravan insurance.
According to figures from VisitEngland, nearly 19 million Britons took a British holiday, many of which were in caravans, while there was also a 20 per cent rise in spending over the course of the summer.
With the recession convincing many Britons to forego an overseas holiday for a trip to the British seaside instead, the UK's economy benefitted from the development.
James Berresford, chief executive of VisitEngland, said: "These latest statistics prove that the 'staycation' has reigned over the course of 2009, especially gripping the nation most evidently over the summer months."
Nearly 25 per cent more people made a trip to British beaches through the summer months, while over 20 per cent more holidaymakers enjoyed a caravan break.
In addition to more Britons taking holidays in the UK, there was also an increase in the number of people making day trips to specific day attractions.
In other caravanning news, businesswoman Paula Gilbey recently opened her own caravanning and camping shop in County Durham, according to the Northern Echo.
