A major caravan trip around the UK is one of the many activities being planned by a recent retiree from Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, reports the Sentinel.
Elaine Darlington, 59, retired recently after spending 26 years working at the Hanley Tesco store in the clothing department and plans to use her newfound free time seeing her two young grandchildren more frequently and planning an epic caravan trip.
Ms Darlington told the paper: "I'd also like to have a lot more holidays. I want to go coast to coast around England in a caravan or camper van with [my husband] Russell."
Caravan holidays have proven particularly popular in the UK this year as many Britons have chosen to stay at home and save money during the recession rather than splash out on trips overseas.
To mark his wife's final shift at the supermarket, Mr Darlington surprised her with a bagpipe player and staff danced in the supermarket's entrance to mark their colleague's departure.
Mrs Darlington also plans to spend more time indulging her hobby of jewellery-making and to continue her charity work providing meals for elderly locals.
The number of caravan holidays taken in the UK this year increased by 20 per cent on last year's figures, according to data from VisitEngland.
