Nearly 40 per cent of people planning a trip away for Christmas this year are choosing to head to Yorkshire, a survey suggests, and this could include many caravan holidaymakers.
According to figures from iknow-uk, the next most popular choice is the Lake District, with 20 per cent of consumers searching for information on Christmas breaks interested in the region.
The news could interest caravan insurance policyholders as many people could be planning to take their caravan with them on a Christmas break to save money on accommodation during the recession.
Jenny McGee, head of strategy and engagement for tourism body VisitEngland, said: "Visitors [to the north of England] can enjoy long walks through stunning countryside before tucking into their Christmas dinner or finding a warm and welcoming pub to sneak into for a cup of mulled wine."
There was a year-on-year increase of three per cent in the number of international tourists taking a holiday in Britain during the summer of this year, according to figures from the organisation.
The body predicts spending by international visitors in Britain will increase by four per cent through the course of 2010, although there will only be a one per cent rise in actual visitor numbers.
