A caravan site in Dunbar, East Lothian, has won an award for best loos in a Scottish camping and caravanning site in one of a series of awards received by the region.
Dunbar Camping and Caravanning Site's win could attract caravan insurance policyholders from around the country, while more than 30 additional prizes secured by East Lothian at the 2009 Loo of the Year Awards could also help draw more visitors.
Nearly 20 different sites across the region secured five-star ratings for their toilet facilities, a system that takes into account factors including safety and signage, lighting and cleanliness when the assessment is made.
Councillor Paul McLennan, cabinet member for community wellbeing in East Lothian, said: "All of our attendants and facilities staff set themselves high standards and it's great to see their efforts being recognised and rewarded."
In addition, Dunbar was notable for claiming the prize for best supermarket toilet in the country, with the town's Asda store winning the accolade.
In other news, almost 40 per cent of people planning a last-minute Christmas break in the UK are first considering Yorkshire, according to research from iknow-uk, while Cumbria has proved the second most popular accounting for 20 per cent of searches.
