Plans have been outlined to extend a holiday park that is due to open in Northumberland this year.
Caravan insurance policyholders travelling to the region could find they have greater choice come April when Felmoor Leisure Park is due to welcome its first visitors.
But planners have now decided they would like to extend the original development brief for 20 holiday cabins and 50 static caravan pitches to include shops and a leisure centre, the Journal reports.
The site already houses an additional ten cabins and 20 caravans and plans are afoot to send in an application for the new complex this year.
"We are hoping to put forward a planning application for a leisure centre which would include a beauty salon, swimming pool, gym and shops - things for the local community," commented Melvin Thornton, one of the two brothers who run the park.
When the firm's plans were first revealed in 2008, local group Thirston parish council expressed concern that the development could detract from the area's rural character and cause safety problems.
In related news, the Press and Journal recently reported that caravan storage site Grants (Craigmills) Caravans in Angus is set to redevelop its facility in Strathmartine into a park that will house 28 static caravans.
