A leisure firm has suggested 2010 could be the year of the stay-at-home holiday as Britons look to ward off the effects of the recession.
Figures from Bourne Leisure highlight that bookings at campsites for the coming year have increased on earlier numbers, with 2010 expected to be the firm's busiest season yet.
The trend for staycations began in 2009 and looks set to continue, as the Met Office forecasts one of the warmest summers on record and the pound falls against the euro, making foreign holidays more expensive.
May Britons may choose to join thousands of other caravan insurance policyholders in exploring the UK's attractions as part of a budget break.
A spokesperson for Bourne Leisure commented that the millions of people who chose to holiday at home last year will have seen that the UK has much to offer.
"Not only that, but the substantial cost savings which are to be had from holidaying in Britain makes it an increasingly popular option, particularly with the credit crunch still affecting most consumers," they added.
The firm owns holiday provider Haven, which recently announced a number of cut-price caravan holidays for the spring break.
