Volkswagen has expressed delight at having its California campervan recognised by two motorcaravan award schemes.

The Which Motorcaravan Awards 2010 named the new Volkswagen California the best multi-purpose motorcaravan, while the Motorcaravan Motorhome Monthly's MMM 2010 Awards gave the model highly commended status in its small motorhome/camper category.

Campervan and caravan insurance policyholders may be familiar with the model, which has an electric pop-up roof and two double beds, as well as a sink, fridge and cooker.

Peter Vaughan, editor of Which Motorcaravan magazine, commented: "It's not just the way the California looks or drives that makes it a winner.

"Much of what makes the California great will be common to any conversion of the latest T5 Transporter. No, it's the detailing that makes the California special."

He went on to describe the interior of the vehicle as beautifully laid out and positioned, from the concealed blinds to the automotive trim around the windows.

As a bonus, the expert said VW had even fitted the van with folding outdoor chairs on the inside of the tailgate and an outdoor table as part of the sliding door.

"Class. Sheer class," he concluded.

Last year, Volkswagen announced a new personal contract finance plan for its California customers available until March 31st.
