Caravan insurance policyholders could be set to have greater choice of holiday destination if plans go ahead to convert an egg production plant into a mobile home park in the North York Moors.
According to the Darlington and Stockton Times, Noble Foods has announced it plans to convert the site into a park for 100 caravans that will also boast a swimming pool and other leisure facilities.
The firm is likely to want to make use of parts of the site that currently stand redundant, as free-range eggs have grown in popularity in recent years.
Some objections have been raised by the local parish council, which has suggested the development could dominate the area and could also cause vast increases in traffic and noise.
The council has also voiced fears flora and fauna could be disrupted by the proposals and the development could be intrusive considering its rural location.
County councillor Caroline Seymour called for traffic calming measures to be introduced at all entrances to the village and proper footways to be constructed.
Despite the objections, councillors have been recommended to approve the scheme.
In related news, a mobile home site next to Finchale Abbey in Durham city has finally received its certificate of lawfulness despite being in operation since shortly after the end of World War II.
