The thriving mobile home market is helping to boost the UK's economy; figures from a caravanning group have shown.
Statistics compiled by the Caravan Club have highlighted that its members spent more than £400 million in rural tourism economies last year.
Additionally, increased bookings among potential caravan insurance policyholders could have contributed a further £20 million for the economies, as higher numbers of Britons chose to take caravan breaks last year.
The Club has revealed that it saw bed nights rise by half a million in 2009, bringing the total to six million bed nights spent on its sites.
Caravanners help boost the economy in a variety of ways, such as purchasing fuel for their mobile homes and spending money at restaurants and visitor attractions.
Nick Lomas, the Caravan Club's director of marketing, commented: "The Club's 200-strong sites network had a fantastic year in 2009 and 2010 looks set to be equally buoyant which is great news for the domestic tourism industry."
Recently, the Caravanning and Camping Club revealed that pitch nights sold at its club sites during December last year were up 15 per cent, prompting the group to suggest the staycation tend is set to continue during 2010.
