Caravan insurance policyholders may be interested to read that the Highways Agency and Camping and Caravanning Club are to join forces to come up with initiatives to benefit the country's roads.

The two organisations will combine their expertise to come up with a number of solutions that could help deliver benefits for the road network.

For example, the Highways Agency holds large amounts of historical data and information for real-time traffic updates, which could be used to help caravan insurance policyholders plan the best routes for journeys.

By looking at the data, the two groups hope they will be able to innovate measures to help reduce the number of accidents that take place along key routes.

The club's marketing and communication director Matthew Eastlake commented: "We represent a large proportion of motorists who either tow a caravan or trailer tent or drive a motorhome and our primary aim is ensure road safety and safer highways and motorways."

Highways Agency chief executive Graham Dalton added that the two bodies will be working together to promote the safe towing message.

In other mobile home news, the Camping and Caravanning Club has also announced it plans to overhaul its site network to bring its bases up to a benchmark standard.
