Four members of a gang who were thought to be responsible for up to half of the country's caravan thefts have been sent to jail for their crimes today.
The men, who were arrested in Wiltshire, have all be jailed for between four and nine years after sentencing at Winchester Crown Court.
Alongside caravans, the thieves are also said to have stolen cars, motorhomes, jewellery and cash.
Reports suggest that caravan insurance claims fell by some 47 per cent after the men were arrested in 2007.
The four travellers - Charlie Ward, 28, Martin Ward, 21, John McDonagh, 31 and Martin McDonagh, 29 - were cleared of money laundering charges brought against them, but they were found guilty of conspiring to steal.
The trial lasted for a period of three months.
According to the Independent, caravan thefts fell from 848 to 454 in the space of a year following the men's arrest. The paper adds that a total of 19 police forces were involved in the operation to arrest the men.
