An expansion to the Seafield Caravan Park in Seahouses could help to boost the region's economy by almost £2 million each year, a report suggests.

Proposals for the expansion of the site have not yet been given the go-ahead, but developers believe that some £1.83 million would be pumped into the local economy should the extension take place.

Regional director of Signet Planning Sandra Thompson told the Berwick Advertiser that the site would also create more jobs for local people.

The area for expansion lies within a designation Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty - and developers told the newspaper that they have consulted officials from the area to ensure plans are designed to meet their specifications.

Caravan insurance customers may also be pleased to hear of another development taking place in the north-east.

The Caravan Club is currently working on a new site close to Startforth in Teesdale.

The project is set to contain a range of features, including a play area for young children, a toilet block and laundry facilities, local paper the Teesdale Mercury reported.

Environmental concerns have also come into play in the design of the new site - it is due to feature ground source heating in the toilet block and rainwater recovery for flushing toilets.
