A Devon caravan park has been named the nation's favourite by readers of a mobile home magazine.

Caravan insurance policyholders may have been among the readers of Practical Caravan who voted Ipplepen's Ross Park Hill Farm in Newton Abbot, Devon, as their favourite caravan site in the country.

The park was followed by South Lytchett Manor Caravan and Camping Park in Poole, Dorset, in second place and Trevornick Holiday Park in Newquay, Cornwall, in third.

"Our annual Top 100 Sites awards are voted for by caravanners who have paid to stay. Nobody votes for a site they don't like and I am confident that the sites on the list represent really great stays," commented Nigel Donnelly, editor of the magazine.

Nikki Nichol from the Caravan Club told radio station 106.5 Jack FM that many Britons are turning to caravanning because of the credit crunch.

She suggested that people have realised for the price of a package holiday, they could invest in a second hand caravan and make every weekend a holiday.

"Caravanning is an excellent way to explore what's in our back garden, often. It's a wonderful way to get away, holiday and relax," Ms Nichol added.
