Motorists planning to take their mobile home for a drive this bank holiday weekend might want to ensure the vehicle's wheels are fit for purpose.
Drivers who let their the tyre tread of their caravan fall below the legal minimum of 1.6 millimetres could face a caravan insurance claim, as well as police action that might result in a fine and points.
Tyre distribution network Protyre is urging motorists to make vital checks on their tyres before setting off on an Easter journey, making sure they are correctly inflated and removing and foreign objects lodged in the tread.
"It's easy to forget to check your tyres with all the distractions of an Easter getaway, but they are critical to the safety of your vehicle," warned Simon Hiorns, retail director at Protyre.
The firm is also offering free tyre checks for drivers to provide them with peace of mind or highlight problems with tyres, potentially helping mobile home towers avoid caravan insurance claims during their family trips.
Earlier this year, drivers were also urged to check their tyres for damage after the cold winter caused an increase in the number of potholes on the roads.
