A mobile home owner in Royston, Hertfordshire, may have been grateful for their caravan insurance policy when their holiday home was snatched recently.

The Royston Crow reports the caravan was taken from Morden Hall Farm, near Litlington, on Tuesday last week at around 17:00 BST.

Police were called to search for the missing mobile home, which was spotted being towed by a Toyota pick up truck.

However, when officers pulled the vehicle over, the thieves fled.

Police went to great lengths to find the culprits, including using a search party and a dog team. The Hertfordshire Police helicopter was then drafted in to provide a more thorough search but the criminals were not found.

The mobile home was found to be undamaged and returned to their owners, who were potentially concerned they would have to make a caravan insurance claim should the vehicle have been found to be broken.

Mobile home owners can follow a number of measures to make their caravans more secure, including fitting the vehicle with an alarm or tracking system, using hitch locks and making sure the trailer is securely chained up and padlocked.
