Television presenter and fan of the great outdoors Ben Fogle has said he has noticed a rise in the number of Britons enjoying breaks at home.

The small screen star commented that people are increasingly taking trips in the UK and enjoying what nature has to offer, shunning the opportunity to go abroad following the recent ash cloud chaos.

"[Due to] recent events, whether it be erupting volcanoes in Iceland or strikes by airlines, I think people have realised that actually it is a far safer bet to holiday in the UK," Mr Fogle said.

"I've definitely noticed a huge increase in the number of people enjoying the outdoors and specifically staying put in the UK."

Caravan insurance policyholders may be gearing up for a break at home this Easter bank holiday as a cost-effective way to take a holiday without the worries of delayed flights.

The caravanning industry has seen activity increase in recent years, with the Camping and Caravanning Club saying its membership recruitment records are at an all-time high.

Occupancy rates increased by eight per cent year-on-year, according to the club's most recent figures, while an additional 46,000 club site bookings were made by members and non-members.
