New radio station broadcasts straight from caravan
A new radio station has been launched in Coventry and is being broadcast live from inside a caravan.
Coventry Local Radio (CLR) commenced broadcasting on Monday 29th May, running from 07:00 to 19:00 BST each day and coming live from a caravan parked at the Arena Park shopping centre in Rowleys Green.
Started up by veteran Coventry DJ Stuart Linnell, who presents its weekday breakfast show, CLR has been given an initial three-week license with view to attaining a longer-term one and kicked off with an interview with Coventry's mayor Shabbir Ahmed.
Mr Linnell told the Coventry Evening Telegraph: "Our small, green caravan is not very glamorous, but I'm sure that we will be successful and that Coventry will soon have a new radio station.
"I'm very excited. I've worked in Coventry off and on since 1980, and to get back on air again here is a real buzz for me."
Asked about the sort of listener he expected CLR to attract, Mr Linnell replied that he and his colleagues had carried out market research so as to ensure it appealed to local people, particularly over-35s of the sort that would listen to BBC Radio Two.
The former Mercia Sound managing director and BBC CWR breakfast show host has launched the station with the backing of commercial radio company Laser Broadcasting, in the hope of convincing Ofcom it is worthy of a permanent license.
