With the next bank holiday fast approaching, drivers have been issued with a number of tips to aid them when towing their mobile homes.
A Land Rover stockist in Peterborough has released a series of tips that could help motorists avoid a caravan insurance claim when towing their trailers.
These include checking the driver's licence to ensure the motorist is qualified to tow a caravan. Number plates on the trailer should also be checked to make sure they match up with the towing vehicle, the Evening Telegraph reports.
According to Marshall Land Rover, caravans also require regular examinations throughout the year to make sure they are safe to use, while driving styles will need to be adapted when towing the mobile home as the driver will need more time to stop.
A smooth driving style should be adopted for safer as well as achieving greater fuel economy and drivers are advised to check their breakdown cover policy also takes into account their caravan or trailer.
Practical Caravan magazine adds that it is worth remembering that towed outfits can travel at speeds of up to 50 miles per hour (mph) on single carriageways and up to 60 mph on dual carriageways.
