Caravanners who have used a council-owned site in Dumfries since its inception have voiced concerns that the park may be bought privately.

Speaking to the Galloway News, caravanners voiced fears that Silvercraigs Caravan and Camping Park is about to be bought out and as a result, fees could rise and problems could become difficult to fix.

"We've supported it since it was just a portaloo and we spend a lot of money - it costs me £1,200 to have a caravan on the site and the electricity hook up for the season and I use it quite a lot," one resident told the publication after using the site for 27 years.

Caravan insurance policyholders using the site may enjoy the park's proximity to nearby sandy beaches, along with a useful children's play area, local attractions and pitches for 37 caravans.

Local councillor Jane Maitland told the publication that the site is being looked at to determine the best way forward for the park.

But she added that as far as she is concerned, the park being sold off is "not in the game plan" and said the park is a "superb facility".
