Caravan and motorhome manufacturer Explorer has said it believes it can make a good recovery this year from the difficult trading and financial conditions experienced recently.

The firm encompasses brands like Elddis and Buccaneer and despite seeing revenues decline by millions of pounds in the last year, has revealed it believes it will return to profit this year.

In its recently-released directors' report, the firm said it suffered during 2009 in the poor economic climate and as a result of over-production in the industry, as well as due to a reduction in stocks held at retailers.

And while it predicts the remainder of 2010 will remain difficult, Explorer has said: "Initial indications for the coming year are encouraging with retail demand for the company's products being maintained in line with expectations."

It added that its operational actions have become more flexible and thus helped assist the firm in trading profitably in the year to date.

Last month, the firm announced a range of special edition Compass touring caravans are now available from its Discover Leisure dealerships.

Meanwhile, its Elddis brand expanded its Sussex Caravan Centre with the launch of a second dealership in the area earlier this year.
