A Skegness town could find local tourism gets a boost following the decision to allow more than 20 touring caravans to be sited in Burgh.

The Skegness Standard reports that the application for 24 mobile homes to be placed at the site at Catchwater Meadows was approved recently by East Lindsey planning committee, despite councillors being recommended to refuse the plan.

Commenting on the decision, councillor Neil Cooper told the publication that the move will bring a boost to shops, pubs and other businesses in the area when caravan insurance policyholders pitch up for a stay.

"It will help sustain the local community which is partly dependent on income from holiday visitors," Mr Cooper said.

When asked whether he thought the decision could open the floodgates for many similar plans, the councillor said that each application is assessed on its own merits.

A popular holiday destination for staycationers for decades, Skegness already has a host of caravan site providers to cater for the needs of holidaying caravan insurance policyholders.

Among the parks is East Coast Diamond Holidays, Golden Beach Caravan Site, Golden Beach Caravan Site and Coastfields Caravan Site.
