The Mazda CX-7 has been awarded with the "Best in Class" accolade at the Towcar Awards 2010 for the 1,725-1,899kg weight category.

The vehicle was acknowledged for its commendable driving capabilities with or without a caravan. The Mazda was also praised for its reasonable price, which will leave drivers with enough for their car insurance budgets.

Out of all 41 cars assessed, the Mazda CX-7 came on top in the category, beating the Honda CR-V 2.2 iDTEC EX auto, Suzuki Grand Vitara 1.9 DDiS SZ5 and the Volvo XC60 2.4D DRIVe SE Lux to scoop the award at the annual awards ceremony, which was hosted by Caravan, What Car? and The Camping and Caravanning Club, on June 15th at Woburn Abbey in Bedfordshire.

Mark Cameron, sales director for Mazda UK, said: "The CX-7 is the first SUV to combine the Mazda sports appeal with four wheel drive. It is the best of both worlds, perfect for family road trips or individual excursions.

"It has proven itself in the very competitive awards held by the Camping and Caravanning Club."

He added that is a "perfect cohesion" of a luxury SUV and a sports car and features excellent torque levels and a responsive drive.

The exact specification of the model tested was the Mazda CX-7 2.2-litre Sport Tech Diesel, which is priced at £26,995 on-the-road.
