Caravan insurance policyholders may be among those first through the gates when a new eco caravan park is built in Ardleigh, Essex.

The Caravan Club noted that the £2 million pound venture, which plans to feature low energy consumption measures, would generate around £750,000 a year for local businesses, while allowing caravan insurance policyholders to explore the area, the Essex County Standard reported.

Planning permission has been sought from Tendring Council and the club hopes to start construction work on the site during the coming autumn and complete in time for Easter 2011, said the Caravan Club's head of estates Tony Barnett.

He told the newspaper: "The Caravan Club has, for many years, been seeking a suitable location for a combined touring and storage facility in the vicinity of Colchester, while also providing access to the countryside and burgeoning tourist attractions between the city and coastline."

However, owner of Ardleigh Caravan and Camping Park Peter Josselyn told the paper that the village is too small to contain both caravan sites, and expressed his belief that caravan insurance policyholders would not find enough differences between the two.

The new site will contain 96 pitches for caravan insurance holidaymakers as well as a children's play area. It will cover almost 14 acres of farmland.
