A £2 million deal has been created to transform a dilapidated caravan park in Lowestoft.

A contract has been made between Waveney district council and Tingdene Parks that will see the residential site operator run the North Denes caravan and camping site, the Advertiser 24 reports.

Caravan insurance policyholders may be interested in visiting the park once it has been reinvigorated after lying empty for a number of years.

The site is set to be in operation by the start of next year's caravanning season and is set to include an area for tourers as well as 50 static caravans on site.

Tingdene Parks currently operates sites in a number of locations, including Bedfordshire, Essex and Norfolk.

According to the publication, the council has previously tried to sell off the land before it met with opposition from Protect Our North Denes Association, which wanted the area protected as a public space.

The site was formerly set to be redeveloped into a £4.5 million seafront holiday park by Park Holidays. However, the deal was not completed, Caravan Park Jobs reported, as the site operator had made the decision to focus on developing its existing parks.
