Caravan insurance policyholders planning on taking a staycation this year are likely to visit Devon, North Yorkshire or the Lake District, leisure and motoring association CSMA Club has forecast.
Mark Rothery, chief executive of the club, said research from CSMA showing that a quarter of holidaymakers are taking more trips in the UK this year than in 2009 is good news for the domestic travel sector.
"Holidaymakers who have chosen to stay in the UK for financial reasons in the past few years may well now have a greater appreciation of the beauty of the British Isles and the hospitality on offer," he pointed out, adding that caravan insurance policyholders may be more inclined to stay on home soil for future holidays.
Mr Rothery's comments come after trade body R3 published research suggesting that two in five people (38 per cent) are actively trying to cut down on their holiday spending this year, while over half (56 per cent) have decided not to go abroad this summer as a result of spending restraints.
The club's chief executive highlighted how there are "thousands of hidden gems" across Britain, including beautiful scenic spots not usually mentioned in guide books, and urged caravan insurance policyholders to explore their local area over the sunny months.
