Caravan insurance policyholders in Ireland may be among those found by a poll to not feel safe on the country's roads.
According to AA research, almost one in five (19.5 per cent) motorists admitted they feel somewhat or very unsafe when driving on Irish roads compared to four per cent who said they feel very safe.
In research that may highlight the importance of having caravan insurance, many respondents said their chief concerns on the roads were encountering a drink-driver or an aggressive tailgater who would practice unsafe overtaking manoeuvres.
AA director of policy Conor Faughnan commented: "Irish road safety has been something of a success story in recent years."
He noted that the number of traffic accidents resulting in a death has fallen by 42 per cent over the last ten years.
"However, we still have a long way to go to make our roads the safe environments that they should be and this is evident in the findings of the poll."
The survey also found that motorists, including caravan insurance policyholders, tend to feel safest on motorways but not on secondary roads or late at night.
It has been reported that the country's Road Safety Authority will shortly be announcing plans to bring in a graduated licensing system. A statement is expected at the end of August.
