Caravan insurance policyholders may be well placed for a staycation that is good value for money, according to The Camping and Caravanning Club.
Jon Dale, spokesman for the club, commented that the poor exchange rates coupled with environmental concerns and travel safety means more people are going "back to the basics" and choosing an option that allows them to keep an eye on their budget.
He noted that while 2010 has not seen a "massive increase" on last year, which was the club's best trading year ever, more caravan insurance policyholders are opting to stay in Britain for their summer break rather than go abroad.
"I think people realise that in this country you can't guarantee bright sunshine every day, but they use our campsites as a base to get around and explore local countryside and help the local economy at the same time," Mr Dale explained.
Trips to camping and caravanning sites have increased in popularity, overtaking bed and breakfasts as the UK tourist's accommodation of choice, figures released by the Office for National Statistics show.
Some 5.43 million trips were taken to campsites last year, many by caravan insurance customers, representing a 29 per cent increase on 2009.
