A caravan was set alight in what is thought to have been an arson attack.

The vehicle, in a case that reflects the importance of caravan insurance, was being stored in a garage in Grays, Essex, that was set ablaze between 1700 BST and 1830 BST on Monday August 2nd.

The Thurrock Gazette reported that flames quickly spread to the caravan and a garden fence, causing £36,500 worth of damage.

Police are now investigating the suspected arson and are searching for witnesses.

It comes after a blaze ripped through chalets at a caravan park in Keith, Scotland, in which five people were injured.

Grampian police are looking into the cause of the fire, which was preceded by an explosion.

There are a few leads but there are still other things to consider, a police spokesman told the Press and Journey.

"That's particularly due to the fact that some of the people are still in hospital and are not able to give statements. It was not started maliciously - they have ruled that out. It was not an intentional fire."

Caravan insurance policyholders who wish to reduce the risk of having to make a claim on their caravan insurance could install fire extinguishers, fire blankets and smoke alarms inside their vehicle.
