A caravan enthusiast who managed to escape from his vehicle after thieves stole it is back in court today (August 11th) to see the miscreants face a possible jail sentence.

In a case which highlights the importance of caravan insurance, grandfather William Roberts had fallen asleep in his £15,000 touring vehicle when Benjamin Moorhead and Chantelle Kinnish hitched it to a van and drove it off Mr Roberts' driveway.

The 70-year-old was then left staggering around his caravan for ten minutes before Mr Moorhead, who was driving the Ford Transit van, made a brief stop, allowing Mr Roberts to escape.

Police pursued the criminals at speeds of up to 80 miles per hour before the caravan veered off a dual carriageway and stopped.

Mr Moorhead, 29, admitted to magistrates at Llandudno in north Wales that he took the caravan without consent and drove whilst disqualified, which could have caused problems for any subsequent caravan insurance claim.

Ms Kinnish, 24, admitted to allowing herself to be driven in a stolen van.

The BBC reports that Mr Roberts rejected a suggestion that the incident was a caravan insurance job gone wrong when asked by the defence attorney.

He insisted that the vehicle was not covered by caravan insurance.
