Britain's prime minister needs to support his belief in the tourism sector with decisive action if it is to thrive for caravan insurance policyholders and other visitors, the Tourism Alliance has stated.

Kurt Janson, policy director for the organisation, was commenting on the speech made by David Cameron last week when he said that the tourism sector is "fundamental to the rebuilding and rebalancing of our economy" and is "one of the best and fastest ways of generating the jobs we need so badly in this country".

Mr Janson said the comments made by the prime minister were a positive "acknowledgement of the size and importance" of the tourism industry, which is boosted by caravan insurance customers and other travellers, and that the sentiments constitute a "significant step forward" from the position of the last government.

However, these words need to translate into action to reduce the burden of red tape on the sector and to make it easier for international visitors to come to the country and invest in tourism activities.

Mr Cameron has outlined his goal of getting Britain into the top five destinations in the world for tourism, which means competing internationally with the likes of Germany and other popular holiday hotspots for visitors from emerging markets such as China.
