Caravan owners win court battle

Two caravan owners from Shropshire have won a court battle to continue living in their vehicle.
Caravan insurance policyholders might have heard that Janta and Merav Wheelhouse had been fighting Shropshire Council for permission to live on site in their caravan since moving out of their conventional home five years ago, the Shropshire Star reported.
But the council withdrew the prosecution at Shrewsbury Magistrates' Court, which comprised charges against the caravan owners for failing to comply with or contravening an enforcement notice or prohibition order.
Earlier this year, Mr and Mrs Wheelhouse were told to move off their eco-farm by an independent planning inspectorate, who turned down an appeal made by the couple.
James Felton for the prosecution said that the council had decided to withdraw the case after receiving signed undertakings from the Wheelhouses.
He commented: "We have received undertakings from them that pending the outcome of other litigation the breach of the enforcement notice will be remedied within a given timescale," the news source reported.
It is unknown whether Mr and Mrs Wheelhouse have caravan insurance for their vehicle, but their case is to be made the subject of High Court judicial review in October.
