Caravan insurance policyholders who take shorter holidays more frequently tend to be happier than those who take one long trip a year, researchers have revealed.
Psychologists at Duke University in North Carolina found individuals who use their holiday allowance in bursts are generally more content than people who use theirs in one go.
Peter Crane, head of product strategy at travel company Explore, said this is a trend that his firm has noticed.
People "want to go to a place and get the most out of it in as little time as possible," he pointed out.
"So if you can do three or four destinations in a year rather than just the one, for a lot of people that's a big plus."
Caravan insurance policyholders may have an extra advantage because they can pack up their vehicle and take off for a long weekend.
The researchers at Duke University also found that holidaymakers who break up extended time away from home by doing work in the middle of their trip are more appreciative of their excursion.
Professor Dan Ariely, who led the research, explained that on a long vacation, the seventh day is not as exciting as the first day of the trip.
This is why taking shorter breaks several times a year provides more benefit to holidaymakers, he added.
