Caravan insurance policyholders staying in a park in Scotland might have received a bit of a shock earlier this week as witnesses reported sights of a black panther near a children's play area.

Two sightings were made of a creature resembling a big cat - one on Saturday by Sheriff Donald Booker-Milburn and one on August 26th by range warden Ray Paton, the Press and Journal reported.

Mr Booker-Milburn told the newspaper that he had been walking his dog and was returning home by car when the mystery animal darted across the road that passes Dornoch Caravan Park.

"It was far too big, I would say about the size of a six-month-old labrador. The way it moved, too, convinced me it was some type of panther," he explained.

"I am convinced what I saw was a black panther. From its condition it was obviously living well."

Mr Paton, whose duties at the Tain bombing range mean he has to check the area early in the morning, also spotted a large cat-like creature measuring about four-foot long.

He reported the sighting to the police and afterwards spoke to a local farmer who had found a dead sheep on his land the week before that looked as though it had been savaged.

In May this year, caravan insurance customers might recall that the Daily Mail reported the case of 15-year-old Kim Howells, who is convinced she was stalked through woodland in the Forest of Dean by a black panther.
