Elderly caravanners told to find right policy for them
People aged over 50 who are planning a caravan holiday should ensure they have the policy that suits them best and not just on price, it has been claimed.
Although many insurance providers differentiate their products so much that there seems little in common between them on which to make a comparison, older caravanners should choose a policy according to exactly what they need covered.
It is important they do not simply opt for the cheapest quote on offer but that they shop around for the best policy available, RIAS warns, which should provide complete cover and reimbursement should the holiday go wrong.
The insurer's managing director Janet Connor explained: "When buying insurance, consumers need to think of a policy as something they need to tailor, rather than an off-the-shelf product.
"It is essential to be familiar with the terms of the policy in order to know exactly what you are paying for and what cover you are getting. This is particularly the case with travel insurance for the over 50s as there is often the important consideration of pre-existing medical conditions."
Older caravanners are advised to discuss with their insurer any such conditions they have that may require cover, as well as to ensure they are also covered for outpatient treatment too.
They should also check their home insurance policy so as to see whether or not this already covers them for any possessions they bring with them.
