The movement to improve standards in the growing UK van sector has another supporter in the shape of GreenRoad.

It is one of the industry leaders in driver performance and safety, and has become a partner in the Freight Transport Association's (FTA) Van Excellence scheme.

The launch of Van Excellence in 2010 was welcomed by the industry, with many household names now taking part in a bid to improve fuel efficiency in the sector.

By formalising working practices and setting a formal code of conduct for van operators, the FTA also wants to improve the sector's safety record.

Aidan Rowsome, general manager of GreenRoad, said the company was delighted to be lending its support to such a worthwhile scheme.

"We hope that through this partnership we will help van fleet managers understand that it is possible to change driving behaviour and achieve considerable savings in accident costs, fuel, insurance and wear-and-tear," he said.
