The importance of having van insurance in place at all times has been highlighted by a legal case in Buxton.
Luigi Pellegrino Pancaro, 50, was given a six-month driving ban after he was found not to have van insurance on his Mercedes vehicle, the Buxton advertiser reports.
The vehicle was parked outside Mr Pancaro's home, and was also not displaying a tax disc.
New rules introduced by the government now require all vehicles to be covered by an insurance policy whether they are being driven or not. The only way a vehicle can go uninsured is through the completion of a Statutory Off Road Notification document.
Mr Pancaro told High Peak Magistrates Court that the Mercedes van had broken down, and he was unaware that he needed to keep the vehicle insured.
He was fined £150 for the insurance offence and £100 for the vehicle licence offence, as well as being given the ban and six penalty points.
